As the physical impacts of climate change become more urgent and the subject of wider public concern, greater understanding of the societal responses will be needed. Therefore, research to support communication about climate action plans and to increase citizen engagement with climate and energy transition is necessary. This project addresses that
challenge through an analysis of citizens’ views on and media consumption about climate actions in Ireland. By investigating citizens’ current understandings of and involvement in climate action, the study sheds light on what additional or new communications messages are needed. Likewise, knowledge of citizens’ media use is crucial in the contemporary media landscape where the proliferation of media outlets requires nuanced communications strategies to reach targeted audiences. This report outlines the exploratory research undertaken as part of an Environmental Protection Agency, Ireland (EPA) project and provides timely, empirical data on citizen engagement as it occurs in the course of daily life.
