Abstract
This chapter is an important intervention for the study of Nazi-era childhood exile. While there is existing scholarship on this subject, it tends to focus on the adult and/or retrospective view rather than children’s responses at the time. Taking Judith Kerr’s texts from and about childhood exile as a case study, this chapter establishes how and what can be learned about this phenomenon from contemporary children’s writings.
