This chapter discusses non-Western perspectives on creativity to critically assess the legacy of Western creativity research. It aims to provide a panorama of different treatments of creativity, starting by presenting some issues with contemporary Western creativity and then giving an overview of how creation and creativity are understood in other parts of the world. It starts with the continent that shared relatively similar views on creativity with Europe and North America due to its colonial legacy: Africa. It then explores the conceptualization of creativity in South America before exploring those in the Buddhist and the Taoist traditions. The third and final section of this chapter discusses how these perspectives could be integrated, emphasizing the need to be more in tune with the preservation and reimagination of modes of relations between humans and nonhuman entities that cohabit the same ecosystem.
