Planning for curriculum integration:Practical pathways and classroom examples

Farragher, Emma and Burke, Patrick (2026) Planning for curriculum integration:Practical pathways and classroom examples. In: Curriculum Integration in Primary Classrooms:Connecting Theory, Research and Practice. Taylor and Francis, pp. 251-275. ISBN 9781032953274

Abstract
In this chapter, we offer insights into key considerations for teachers when planning for curriculum integration. Drawing on research and theory pertinent to integration and planning, as well as our own experiences of preparing for and enacting integrated approaches, we emphasise the importance of adopting a coherent and contextualised approach when attempting to make connections across and within curricula. The chapter includes three examples of integration from the classroom, pointing out the processes followed in their planning and enactment. The chapter concludes with reflections and suggestions for future work in this area.
