Abstract
A recurring and pervasive narrative on the topic of innovation in media
industries privileges the part played by technology in transforming the
roles and interests of actors across the spectrum of media sectors, and
their established practices and modes of operation. This is not least so in
the case of the music industry that has (periodically across many
decades) witnessed the evolution of a variety of technological innovations
that have been widely regarded as delivering fundamental change to the
production, distribution or consumption of music.
