From Myth to Mastery: Supporting Irish Teachers’ Knowledge of Dyslexia.
Technical Report.
Dublin City University.
Abstract
Teachers play a key role in every student’s success, so it is vital they understand the diverse learning needs in their classrooms, including those of dyslexic students. To support these learners effectively, teachers need a clear understanding of dyslexia and how to apply the latest research evidence in their teaching. Rather than relying on international examples, research is urgently needed to understand what Irish teachers currently know - and don’t know - about dyslexia. With support from Research Ireland, DCU and Dyslexia Ireland have spent the past year (2025) studying teachers’ knowledge of dyslexia and developing free online resources to promote effective, evidence-based teaching.
